Propwash
fast · swirling
messy
Thrust is moving air. Four props push a strong stream of air down. That is what keeps the drone up.

That air doesn't disappear. It becomes a column of fast, swirling air under and behind the drone: propwash.

Fly away from it and you never notice. Fall back into it and the props lose their grip.

When does it bite?
1
Dropping straight down
The drone sinks into the air it just pushed down.
2
Throttle off in a dive
throttle off
Props slow down, the drone catches up with its own wash.

Why it turns into a wobble
Props hit
messy air
Thrust jumps

Flight controller
corrects…
…overcorrects
shake!
The flight controller tries to hold the drone steady. But the air keeps changing, so every correction is a little late, and a little too big.

Round and round it goes, many times a second. You see it as a shake or wobble in your video, usually right when you want things calm.

The drone can help a little
Straight, balanced props
Bent or chipped props shake on their own. Fresh props first.
FC
A solid build
Tight screws, no loose parts, the flight controller on soft mounts.
A good tune
Betaflight filters and dynamic idle help a lot, but that’s another talk.
Flying smart fixes most of it. A healthy drone makes the rest smaller.

Remember
Don't fall into your own wind.
Propwash is the dirty, turbulent air your own propellers leave behind. When the drone falls back into it, the props lose grip and the quad shakes.
1
Propwash is your own dirty air.
2
Don't drop straight down into it. Come down at an angle.
3
Keep a little throttle on in dives and turns.
4
Straight props and a solid build make it smaller.
